Every month, our media librarian Nicolas shares his favourite thing to be found at the Alliance française Resource Centre!
Bruxelles disparu - volume 2
“Two months ago, when our teacher Catherine Minala held a photo exhibition here, I wrote my first column on Kiss & Brol which resumed her work on Brussels.
Catherine took photographs of modern-day Brussels.
This month, I’m suggesting you discover the Brussels which has “long gone” through a collection of photographs chosen and commented upon by Belgian historian and writer Marc Meganck: “Bruxelles disparu (2)”. Why not come along to our new cosy lounge at the Resource Centre and browse through them?
Take a trip down memory lane and look at various places (buildings, streets and green spaces) in the Belgian capital of old, before what the city planners called the “Brusselisation” (anarchic modernisation). For example, you’ll discover the atmosphere that reigned in the Rue Neuve, before the thoroughfare became the street of franchised brands that we know today.”
