Our Teaching STYLE
Our teaching staff is made up of qualified and passionate teachers, all native French speakers, who undergo regular training to extend and develop their teaching skills. They are coordinated by an education team who ensure the consistency of our curricula and educational activities.
Teaching centred on oral skills
Our courses are delivered exclusively in French. The methodology employed encourages oral interaction and facilitates learning. Classroom activities mimic everyday and professional situations and are designed to ensure active involvement on the part of the students, so they quickly begin to express themselves in French.
New technology for educational purposes
New technology is used to make more time for oral practice in class:
- our staff devise educational activities on tablet computers for more action-oriented learning;
- learners study online and do their written exercises at home (the flipped classroom approach);
- the teacher sets online remedial exercises to enable students to overcome their difficulties before the next lesson and/or expand their knowledge according to their needs (differentiated learning).
A resource centre for your use
More than 6,000 resources are available free of charge to students and teachers in our modern Resource Centre, which is dedicated entirely to French language learning. It has collections of methods, grammar books, films, novels, comic books, newspapers, magazines, books on the French speaking world, digital resources, etc. Reception and relaxation area, place to work and self-study, the Resource Centre has been designed to provide a valuable teaching and learning hub. The resources available are classified according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) (Bibliothèque de l’apprenant/learners’ library). Educational tours are organised in the Resource Centre to help our students learn how to search for resources. Find out more about the Espace Jean-Pierre de Launoit Resource Centre
The fundamental principle which underpins teaching in an Alliance Française is that culture and language learning should go hand in hand. That is why we integrate culture into our language teaching as often as possible: workshops with French-speaking artists, opportunities for our students to contribute to exhibitions in our gallery, for example. We also enter into partnerships with cultural institutions in Brussels. Consult our cultural programme!
A dynamic and respected educational design centre
Our educational design team also provides educational input for programmes shown on TV5MONDE, the first global French-language television channel. The resources they develop are, therefore, available to teachers of French as a foreign language around the world.
