FAQ

Enrolment availability for new and former students

You may contact us to check whether there is still space in our courses, but we enrol new students daily. We thus recommend that you register as soon as possible, even if you are currently taking our courses as a student.

We do not take reservations and some classes are often filled 3 weeks before the starting date!

If there is still space available, and if you have taken your test sufficiently in advance (no later than Wednesday evening of the week before a new session starts), you may be able to register by Friday noon before the start of a new session. Otherwise, you can always check with us during the first few days of class, although you will probably miss the initial lessons!

Waiting lists and number of students per class

To start and maintain a class, we require a minimum of 8 students (6 for workshops) and we will accept a maximum of 13-15 students depending on the level. If you are put on a waiting list, you will be contacted when we know whether a class is starting or closing down, and we will suggest alternatives, or when a space has become available.

Cancelation of classes

We are sometimes forced to cancel a class on the Friday before a session starts when we do not have sufficient enrolment to maintain a level or to start a new course. We will call or write to all the students involved as soon as the decision to cancel is made.

Means of payment

If you are in Belgium, you should come by our reception desk and pay for your order in full using cash, Bancontact or a credit card (VISA or MasterCard).

Registering from abroad

If you are outside of Belgium, you may pay by bank transfer: contact us by e-mail and we will send you our bank information. When we receive your proof of payment (legible fax or scan sent by e-mail - preferably in .pdf format), we will reserve you a space for three business days. You will be responsible for any charges by your bank.
- If your payment does not arrive by this deadline, your space will be released.
- If your payment arrives late and the class is full or cancelled, you will receive a full refund except for any charges made by your bank.
- If there are not enough enrolments and the class is cancelled, you will receive a full refund except for any charges by your bank.

Visas and Terms of Enrolment

We only enrol students for a maximum period of 4 months, which may be renewed.

We do not provide information about visas. For this, you will need to contact the Belgian embassy or consulate in your country of residence. At your request, and upon receipt of your payment in our account, we can supply you with an affidavit of enrolment for the period in question.

Placement tests, level completion tests and official examinations

- Placement tests: These are internal tests that help us place you in the most suitable class for your level and cannot be used as official proof of completion of a level. The results are valid at our Alliance for 6 months.

- Level completion tests: At the end of each level, you will sit for a test that will confirm (or not) your ability to move up to the next level. You will receive a certificate based on the test results. This is an internal test valid at our Alliance for 6 months.

- Official diplomas and certifications: See our TCF/DELF/DALF pages.

Student ID card

If you are enrolled in a standard or private course (enrolment in diploma or certificate courses and certificate preparatory classes is not included), you may obtain our student ID card free of charge by presenting personal identification and one photo (3 x 4 cm format, maximum). It will be valid for one year from the date of your first enrolment.

In addition to student discounts offered in Brussels, your student ID will give you access to discounts negotiated specifically for Alliance students, which are listed in our newsletter that comes out approximately every other month.

Please note: Access to our Resource Centre is allowed only for a maximum of one month after your last class at the Alliance.
